Public Disclosure About the University of Oregon BLA and MLA Degrees

Average ranges of additional costs of attendance beyond those published on the UO website:

Art and drafting supplies = $240 - $700 per year.

  • Most design work is now digital, and mainly so in more advanced classes.
  • Some students choose to sketch, draw, or render many studio products by hand, which adds to these costs.

Printing of drawings and posters for display at reviews and class pinups = $350 - $1,600 per year.

  • Digitally produced graphics are sometimes printed for class or public events. Digitally projected displays are often used instead.
  • Some students choose to print digitally produced in-process and draft drawings often, which adds to costs.

A high-powered laptop computer with lots of RAM and VRAM, a fast graphics card, and maximum drive storage = $3,400 to $5,600.

  • Design work requires a powerful graphics computer because CAD, GIS, image, and 3D graphics files are often very large.
  • Many students find that a large external monitor for home and/or studio is also very useful = $200 to $1,000.
