The College of Design has announced a call to tenure track faculty (TTF) and non-tenure track faculty (NTTF) for applications for the Justice and Equity Design Initiative (JEDI) retreat, a writing and creative practice weekend session near Lincoln City September 20-22.

PPPM Associate Professor Gerardo Sandoval, the Dean’s Fellow for Diversity, and the College of Design Equity and Inclusion Committee have developed the JEDI initiative, which will support and highlight research on equity issues within the design disciplines by self-identified underrepresented NTTF and TTF faculty of color and allies.

As part of the Justice and Equity Design Initiative, the JEDI writing and creative practice retreat came about as a catalyst for retaining the current shortage of diverse faculty; the college’s few self-identified faculty members of color are often the only such members in their departments. The retreat will focus on creating a supportive network for faculty of color and allies and strategizing about how to highlight their research, as well as how to share that research with a broader audience including students, administrators, staff, and other faculty.

Any College of Design TTF or NTTF faculty member can apply, with priority given to self-identified underrepresented faculty of color and allies whose research and creative practice are closely aligned with issues of justice and equity. The College of Design Equity and Inclusion Committee will cover retreat lodging, meals, and travel. The University of Oregon Office of the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion provided funding to support this College of Design initiative in an effort to implement the College’s Diversity Action Plan.
